Rubber Roller Maintenance Guide: Key Measures To Extend Service Life

May 19, 2025

As an important component of conveying equipment, rubber rollers are widely used in industries such as mines, ports, and power plants. Their performance directly affects the conveying efficiency and equipment stability. However, many users ignore daily maintenance, resulting in premature wear or failure of the rollers. This article will introduce the scientific maintenance methods of rubber rollers to help users extend their service life and reduce maintenance costs.

Clean regularly to prevent foreign matter accumulation

After long-term operation, the surface of rubber rollers is prone to dust, oil or residual conveying materials. These impurities not only increase friction resistance, but also may corrode the rubber material. It is recommended to clean the rollers at least once a month, use a soft brush or low-pressure airflow to remove surface dirt, and stubborn stains can be wiped with a neutral detergent to avoid strong acid and alkali corrosion of rubber.

Check lubrication and bearing status

The rotation of the roller depends on the internal bearing. Insufficient lubrication will cause dry friction and accelerate wear. The bearing lubrication should be checked every quarter, and an appropriate amount of special grease should be added. If abnormal noise or jamming of the bearing is found, it needs to be replaced in time to avoid affecting the normal operation of the roller.

Avoid overload and abnormal impact

Rubber rollers are designed with rated loads. Long-term overload will cause rubber deformation or cracking. During operation, ensure that the conveyed material is evenly distributed to avoid excessive local pressure. At the same time, prevent metal foreign objects from getting stuck between the rollers and the conveyor belt to reduce damage to the rubber caused by abnormal impact.

The storage environment needs to be moisture-proof and sun-proof

Idle rollers should be stored in a dry and ventilated place to avoid direct sunlight or humid environments that cause rubber aging. When stored for a long time, it is recommended to rotate the rollers regularly to prevent the rubber from sticking and deforming due to long-term static.

Through the above maintenance measures, the service life of rubber rollers can be significantly extended and the frequency of downtime and maintenance can be reduced. Scientific maintenance can not only improve equipment efficiency, but also save long-term operating costs for enterprises.
