Conveyor Tail Pulley: Core Function and Design
The Conveyor Head Drum is located at the loading end of the conveyor and is an important tensioning and belt tracking component. Unlike the head drum, the tail drum is usually an idler (non-driven) and is equipped with an adjustable mount to maintain the correct belt tracking.
Engineered for Demanding Applications
As a passive component, the tail pulley uses adjustable mounts for precise belt tensioning and tracking. Lightweight aluminum models are available for mobile conveyors, while heavy-duty cast-iron versions are suited for long-distance systems. Some models include self-cleaning scrapers to remove debris. In a specific application for a cement clinker conveyor, where material temperatures exceed 120°C, our tail pulley integrates a rotary polyurethane scraper with a contact pressure of 50N/cm². The shell surface is coated with PTFE to reduce material adhesion by 70%. The bearings utilize high-temperature grease (lithium complex, with an operating range of -30°C to 200°C) and are protected by an air-cooled jacket.
